"Medical Robots" Design Summary - Draft 1

In the article, '5 Medical Robots…' (2020), students from Case Western Reserve University suggests that there are many benefits in developing  medical   robots for use in healthcare. A few robots in this list are being used in hospitals to 'improve quality of care and outcome'.  Both the da Vinci Surgical robot and the CyberKnife provides top precision required in their specialized fields. The surgical robot is used by surgeons for their routine operations while the latter is used to treat tumors in extended areas, especially areas that were surgically complex to operate on. Another example of improving 'quality' is the Xenex Germ-Zapping robot. It is designed to automatically disinfect hospital rooms within minutes, effectively killing a wide range of infectious bacteria in the process. The other robots in the article, such as the PARO Therapeutic robot has proven to ‘reduce stress and provide comfort’ for elderly patients. Lastly, the TUG is an autonomou

The Importance of Communication Skills for Engineers

"While all engineers should have good communication skills, global engineers face additional challenges, making effective communication an imperative.”  ~ Debra Kraft, Careers Content Writer, Demand Media (2016) In my opinion, the above quote is trying to say that engineers are basically trained to listen effectively and get their messages across appropriately. Basic two-way communication is involved to get the job done. On the other hand, global engineers are based on globalization. They will have to cater to a wide variety of people and consider external factors that may hinder communication. Factors such as language, culture, non-verbal cues, and assumptions are a few to be named. Thus, being clear and concise goes a long way. I believe that every quote can be interpreted in many ways when viewed differently. Do you agree with my view? If not, do feel free to share your opinions by leaving a comment below.

Submission 1: Formal Letter (Descriptive Reflection)

Greetings to all, I am Richard Ow, a student from the MEC1281 effective communication class. I am writing this formal introduction letter for my fellow readers to get to know more about me.  I graduated from Republic Polytechnic (RP) with a diploma in aerospace engineering. During that period, I achieved a few interesting milestones, which eventually led to my interest to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering. During my second year of the poly course, I was among the selected few to represent my institution at a competition in WorldSkills Singapore. Although I did not win the competition, it was a personal experience that I will not forget. Looking back at that, I was socially limiting myself to the people whom I was already comfortable communicating with instead of trying to broaden my social network, especially with the other participants during the competition. From then on, I have been working on this weakness by establishing relationships with the people that I chance upon in
